Reflective Double-Clip Lead

A double-ended lead is the piece of kit that most improves a difficult walk, and almost nobody owns one. Clipped to the front and back rings of a harness at the same time, it gives you steering rather than just a tow rope, and the dog feels a gentle redirect instead of a jolt on the chest.

The sliding ring on the handle lets you drop from two metres to 1.2 for a road crossing without stopping, and clip the free end back to the handle to wear it across a shoulder when you need both hands. That last one sounds trivial until you are holding a coffee and a poo bag in the rain.

The webbing carries a reflective stripe along its whole length rather than a token panel near the clip. On an unlit road what a driver actually picks up is the moving line between you and the dog, so the stripe is more useful than a reflective collar on its own.

Trigger clips are cast, not stamped, and swivel at both ends so the lead does not build twist over a long walk. Check the springs occasionally; a clip that has started to feel gritty is the one that opens against a fence.
