An indoor cat grooms more, moves less and eats the same food as a cat that spends its day hunting a hedge. Both halves of that show up eventually: hairballs on the landing, and a slow creep in weight that nobody notices until the vet says the number out loud.

This addresses the first with fibre. At 6%, from beet pulp and psyllium, it carries roughly double a standard adult recipe. Swallowed hair moves through the gut instead of accumulating into a mat that gets vomited back. It addresses the second by running about 15% lower in calories per gram than our standard adult cat kibble.

Feed by weight, not by filling the bowl. A 4kg indoor cat needs about 55g a day; free-feeding from a full bowl is the single biggest cause of feline obesity we see, and a cat that grazes will happily eat 30% more than it needs. Split the daily amount across two or three timed portions, or use a puzzle feeder.

A cat producing hairballs more than about once a fortnight, or retching without producing anything, needs a vet rather than a different bag. Persistent retching can be asthma, and it looks exactly like a hairball to an owner standing in a hallway at six in the morning.
